In the movie, Vikram plays the character of Aditya Karikalan. Aditya Karikalan is introduced as the northern hero of the Chola Empire. He is the commander of the forces stationed in the north of the country. He, the crown prince, is in Kanchipuram during the setting of Ponniyin Selvan’s story. After ending the war with the dual-zone forces, he is rebuilding the city of Kanchipuram.
The music of Ponniyin Selvan: I is done by A. R. Rahman. Veteran Tamil writer Jayamohan has penned the dialogues and Ravi Varman has done the cinematography.
