About Orange Cap in IPL
The orange cap is the award reserved for the leading run scorer in an IPL tournament. The orange cap gets handed over as the top scorers change during the course of the tournament and finally who retains it at the end of the tournament will become the orange cap winner of that particular IPL season.
It was on April 25, 2008 the orange cap introduced in IPL. Brendon McCullum is the first player to wear an orange cap in the IPL history, but the first orange cap winner of an IPL tournament is Shaun Marsh (2008).

About Purple Cap in IPL
The purple cap goes to the player who reaps the most wickets in an IPL tournament. Like that of the orange cap, the bowler who takes most wickets during the course of the tournament will wear it during his team’s fielding turn. The bowler stands top in the total wickets taken table after the final will be awarded the purple cap of the tournament at the finals’ awards ceremony.
